Breaking News: Penn State's Defensive Line Sees a Shakeup!
It seems the Nittany Lions are experiencing some roster adjustments. Defensive end Jaylen Harvey is reportedly entering the NCAA Transfer Portal after two seasons with Penn State. This news comes amidst a flurry of activity for the team.
Harvey, a redshirt freshman, made appearances in nine games, racking up nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, and securing one sack. His first career sack came during the Pinstripe Bowl. Over his two seasons, he played in a total of 16 games, accumulating 2.5 tackles for loss. He was also recognized as the Developmental Squad Player of the Week once.
Harvey initially joined Penn State as a highly-regarded three-star prospect from Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was ranked as the No. 16 player in Maryland and the No. 35 edge rusher in the Class of 2024.
A Season of Ups and Downs: The 2025 season saw Penn State with a 7-6 record, a stark contrast to their initial ranking of No. 2 in the AP Top 25 Poll. After a promising 3-0 start, the team faced a challenging period, including losses to UCLA and Northwestern.
Coaching Changes and a Winning Finish: The season also saw a coaching change, with James Franklin being let go on October 12. Under interim coach Terry Smith, the team faced further setbacks. But the Nittany Lions rallied, closing the season with a three-game winning streak, securing bowl eligibility with a victory at Rutgers.
New Leadership: Following an eight-week search, Matt Campbell was introduced as the new head coach on December 8. Campbell, who previously coached at Iowa State for a decade, brings a wealth of experience to the program.
A Bowl Game Victory: Penn State concluded the season on a high note, defeating Clemson 22-10 in the Pinstripe Bowl, extending their winning streak to four games and finishing the season with a 7-6 record.
