Clean Planet Energy, the driving force behind this initiative, envisions a plant that can process an impressive 25,000 tonnes of plastic annually, including the ubiquitous fast-food containers, shopping bags, and plastic films that often end up in landfills or incinerators. This innovative approach, they argue, marks a significant step towards addressing the plastic waste crisis on a national scale.
The proposed facility, to be located at Sleaford Moor Enterprise Park, is expected to create up to 70 permanent jobs and an additional 100 during its two-year construction period. Pyrolysis, a thermal decomposition process, chemically breaks down plastic into oil and gas, offering a potential solution to the mounting plastic waste problem.
Tom Field, a director at Clean Planet Energy, emphasized the significance of this project, stating that it represents "a key milestone" in their national strategy. The plant's location, between Pride Parkway and the A17, has been welcomed by Councillor Richard Wright, the leader of North Kesteven District Council.
